There is magic in every story, and we urge our visitors to spend a moment browsing the shelves to find something that feels like magic to them.

A Carefully Cultivated Collection

Books are the heart and soul of The Cook Book Café.

The original owners, David and Philippa, introduced their carefully cultivated collection of works when they first started the business in 2003. Since then, the book shop has gone from strength to strength, encapsulating everything from women’s fiction, how-to guides, historical literature and rare books salvaged from the unlikeliest of places. Still a destination for holiday-makers on their annual retreat looking for their next favourite book, The Cook Book Café remains home to over 5,000 titles.

As a writer and an avid reader, our owner and manager Rae Chinner continues the love of books, alongside Philippa’s enviable taste and eye for detail, and ensures that the book shop receives just as much love as the café, from our writer’s workshops to the literary quotes that punctuate the walls.

Magic in Every Story

Whilst we are yet to add a stocklist to the website, our staff are always happy to search the shelves for a particular title. We aren’t Amazon, and we don’t have multiple copies of every tome, but that’s what makes us so special. Holding a book that so many others have experienced joy, heartache, laughter and happiness from within the pages of is the whole reason why the book shop continues to thrive.

There is magic in every story, and we urge our visitors to spend a moment browsing the shelves to find something that feels like magic to them.
